Last month I read What Happens When a Man Falls From the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah. It is a fantastic collection of short stories that was popular when it was released, but I didn’t get around to reading until now. I am so glad I did. Lesley Nneka Arimah crafts short stories with precision and grace. Each story took me deep into the world of the characters, and the narration by Adjoa Andoh was, of course, amazing.
I did a little YouTube book vlog on it, which you can find here:
As usual, it’s just fifteen minutes of me absolutely gushing over the book. But lately, that’s the kind of book I need. Something that I love through and through. Something that hits me deep in the feels and doesn’t let go. I think we all need those kinds of books these days.
As a quick recap:
- Favorite story in the book: Who Will Greet You At Home
- Most powerful story (for me): Windfall
- Best thing about the collection: It isn’t prescriptive but it has a super powerful underlying theme that is summed up in the second to last sentence of the book.
Have you read it? Tell me what you thought. What were your favorites?
