Read the World – About

The Inspiration

I love traveling, and my favorite thing to do when I travel is research which writers have written work in the city I’m visiting. There is nothing I love more than sitting in the “writing district” of a new city, thinking about the pens that have touched paper in the exact cafe I’m at now.

While it’s easy to find historical figures and famous writers, I wanted to create a map that showcases all types of writers and work, and makes it easy for readers to access work while they’re traveling. For this reason, I started Read The World.

Challenges

When I first started this, I thought it would be as easy as throwing a map on my website. Spoiler: it was not that easy.

Community mapping is a niche, often expensive undertaking. Thanks to friends in the WordPress community, I was able to put together this project at low-cost. However, it is a learning process and as the project grows, I may have to occasionally take the map down while making updates. Please be patient during these time periods.
